DIABETIC FOOT RISK CATEGORY ::

CATEGORY 1 :
Risk Factors…..Protective sensation present. No history of plantar ulcer. Has a condition which could lead to insensitivity.
Management: Foot clinic examination once a year. Patient education to include proper shoe sandal selection.

CATEGORY 2 :
Risk Factors. Protective sensation absent. No history of plantar ulcer. No foot deformity.
Management…Foot clinic examination once in 6 months. Review all footwear the patient wears and add appropriate insoles.

CATEGORY 3 :
Risk Factors…Protective sensation absent. No history of plantar ulcer.
Foot deformity present.
Management: Foot clinic examination once in 3 months. Custom moulded orthotic devices may be needed. Prescription footwear required.

CATEGORY 4 :
Risk Factors…Protective sensation absent. History of foot ulceration or significant vascular disease.
Management…Foot clinic examination every month.Custom moulded orthotic devices may be needed.Prescription footwear required.
